Frequently Asked Questions

Is that a real (fire, sword, gun, etc.)?: Our charter, and basic practice, is what is known as "living history". When we are encamped we strive to live our lives exactly as life was lived at the time. Our uniforms are heavy wool cut to the same pattern as the originals, and the ladies dresses are of similar materials and made to the same patterns as were worn at the time. The weapons (for the most part) are replicas, made to the same specifications as the originals - and operate in the same fashion. We cook our meals over open wood fires. We use utensils, pots, pans, and mugs of styles and types as close as we can manage to those available at the time we are portraying.

Is that a real (chicken, roast, steak, etc.)?: We are very fortunate in having some excellent cooks in our group, and yes - they cook real food over that open fire. Some unwed members of the regiment have commented that they look forward to reenactments because they actually eat better in the field than they do when left to cooking for themselves, or living on fast food!

Are you really going to eat that?: Yes!!

Are you hot in that?: Why yes, thanks for asking.

How did you get started doing this?: Some members have joined out of a love of history. Some have joined because it seemed like a really fun idea to play war with real guns and black powder. People reenact out of an enjoyment of history, or an enjoyment of role-playing, or perhaps a love of camping. Whatever the reason, we're here to have fun - and if as a side effect we can provide some insight into life in our country's history, so much the better. If you're interested in this kind of hobby, please be sure to contact us if you happen to live in our area. Or be sure to contact reenactment units in your area, or units which portray an historical period for which you have an interest.
